ReplyDeleteThe neighborhood watch program first began being used in 1972. It was created to organize citizens and let citizens work with law enforcement to keep a trained eye and ear on their communities, while demonstrating their presence at all times of day and night. Neighborhood Watches work because they reduce opportunities for crime to occur; they don’t rely on altering or changing a criminal’s behavior or motivation. Neighborhood Watch is one important way citizens can work together to prevent crime. It is a type of program where neighbors are instructed on what to do if they see anything suspicious in their neighborhood. It also deals with what action they can take to deter certain crimes. You must maintain a class "D" license in order to become a watchman. Any person applying for a license must be at least eighteen (18) years of age, be of good moral character, not have a disqualifying criminal history or a disqualifying history of mental illness, drug or alcohol abuse and must be authorized to work in this country. You must then complete a 40 hour watchman training academy.
ReplyDeleteA gated community is a residential area with roads that have gates to control the movement of traffic and people into and out of the area. To enter some gated communities, one must be a registered resident with photographic identification or must have a friend in the gated community who gives specific permission via telephone or internet.

The neighborhood watch was developed in the late 1960s because of a rape and murder of Kitty Genoves in Queens. It was created so residents of their community can try to work together and try to protect it.The residents of the community are suppose to have regular meetings with the members in the neighborhood watch and get a president of the watch. To be come a neighborhood watch i have found that you don't really need any training or even have any experience. Also I've found that there are DO's and DONT'S for a neighborhood watch. They can not take the laws into their own hands, they cant randomly approach a suspicious person, they cant stop criminals committing a crime, etc. They are suppose to report all crimes to the police, report suspicious activity immediately to the police, learn whats normal in their community, etc.
